Upgrading from b2 to WordPress .7

Today I updated from b2, which was the blog software I used, to WordPress, a fork of b2. Once the 0.7 update is ready (I’m currently using the beta 2) it will officially take over the where b2 left off.

Aside from a much nicer backend (kept in nice greys and whites), it has a variety of small updates that has little or no bearing how most people will see the site, but it should make things easier for me, and if nothing else more satisfying.

The update was easy, and Allusion who heads up the WordPress development has been instrumental in me wanting to try this baby out.
Of the new updates, Textile (link is down temporarily at time of writing, but this is up) has been implemented. What this basically is, is a very basic markup language which does away with HTML and adds a few finesse touches along the way, such as for instance “curly quotes” and conversion of certain text elements like dashes and such to their HTML equivalent.

Other than that, the change from b2 to WordPress of course has the added benefit of tidying up my somewhat messy structure of experimentations gone wrong :) Call me a geek, but I sleep better at night knowing that ‘my’ code is tight.

I’m now going to dig up the ‘last comments’ hack and re-implement that.

  • This is a test. The structure of Wordpress (which is the new b2) has been changed somewhat, so I’m not sure how it all works together yet.

  • This is another test, I’m currently setting up the comment templates. My setup is much smoother now, though I still don’t think cookies work :(

  • Always something new huh? Ever heard of “If it ain’t broke, then don’t try and fix it”? ;-) The “old” blog was working great, everything looked smooth and ran fine, oh well. Btw. the size of the fonts have gone up one step again it seams. Thought you might wanted to know that. Cheers!

PS. Why does your blog need to know my E-mail and URL? ;-)

  • Call me Matt. :)

The text size might appear larger because it’s sized using CSS keywords as opposed to another method such as pixels. Easy enough to change in the CSS if you want.

  • Well yeah, but is it just me or is it a little bit faster now?

Either way, this makes things easier for me and since I am the number one priority in these here parts, you people can just go fuuuuck yourselves ;)

I upped the font sizes on purpose.

PS: It needs to know it because I want to know it :) — It ties in to the mails I get sent back whenever someone comments (which is why I’m here so damn fast!).

That’s what you get for using dynamically-generated-via–PHP stuff. BANG! is the One True Path ;)

I’ll bet a comments dealie would be easy to work into BANG!. Maybe I should try it this week.

  • Matt: I’m using px for the main font, I just changed it up a bit (and I’ve now changed it back down).

Sean: Yes, but I doubt BANG! can do near as much as WordPress ;)

  • I’m not going to ‘insert your url’ you Nighteye, nice try though.

  • Blog-spam? WTF? Links lead nowhere.
