125 Million Dollars

Halo 2

Considering not only how long ago it leaked, but also the fact that it leaked in both English and French editions. It is not without some interest that I note Halo’s opening day, domestic only, ending somewhere north of 125 million dollars. Making it the largest opening day in any and all entertainment media ever.

  • LOL This is what made it obvious to me how far away from the game industry I’ve gotten. I never really picked up the immense buzz about Halo 2 and was then surprised to see that not only was the launch a huge success, but obviously also so much more than just huge. And as you say, even with multiple leaked versions… crazy!

I should start subscribing to EDGE again. A shame I can’t play it though, get the motion sickness.

I can’t wait to see if it will have commercials in Danish TV that are so good that it actually makes you want to play games again… like Burnout 3, I love that shopping cart in a mall ad – brilliant!

  • Do you live in Copenhagen? If so, have a look at the Metro paper today. The front, back and first inner pages are all full-page Halo 2 ads. It’s insane!

  • I get motion sickness with those kindsa games too! Annoying, isn’t it? Then again, it probably helps me have much more free time.

  • and me stuck waiting till it comes out on PC or Mac…

  • Been playing it for 2 days now. Enjoying it. There was one aspect of the game I really didn’t like (I won’t elaborate as I don’t wanna spoil it for y’all) The limited edition one with the making of DVD is kick ass! Brought back some memories of when I was working at a games company.

  • I can’t wait to pick this up. My friend and I are going to play through it co-op over Thanksgiving weekend. I never played through the original in single player…

  • Wait with your comments. I’ll post a review very soon, let’s wait with the discussion of the actual game until then.

  • I have nothing really clever to add to this discussin, but I must note that I’m happy not to be the only one getting motion sickness from 3D shooters, noting that Small Paul and Isaack mentioning this. Misery loves company.

  • Over 1.5 million copies of the game were pre-ordered, which is pretty remarkable. The original Halo sold over 4 million copies in the 3 years it has been out and Halo 2 almost sold half that in on day!!

  • And here am I, thankful that i dont get motion sickness playing games

  • Michael, yes I do… actually, after I wrote it, I took a “little” nap, woke up… turned on the TV and in the commercial break, they showed Halo 2. It was far from as good as Burnout, because Burnout made me want to play the game without somehow being involved in the franchise like having played the prequels.

And yes, then later I saw Metroexpress! What about The Incredibles, it’s all over Nørreport and Kgs. Nytorv metro stations. I’m gonna catch the first showing tomorrow! Probably sitting between a whole kindergarten… bah!

… no hold on, kinder-kids don’t understand English, yes!

  • Joen, actually for me it’s getting worse. I had to quit this beta program for a new third person game… after about 2,5 hours, I was ready to throw up… poor me :(

  • 2.4 million copies sold in the first day…that’s one for every 4 XBox’s in the United States!! My brother bought an XBox last week just so that he could play Halo 2 and he’s been a PS2 gamer for years.
