Segregation and iPod

Well, as promised when I launched Freya, I have finally gotten down to segregating comments from ping– and trackbacks. Something I might add, that I believe WordPress should do by default. The Livesearch Entry is a good example of how a list of pings will look like. Either way, I’ll probably post some code soon for those of you interested in something like that. I’m about to send off the latest version of the Latest Comments plugin that Brian wrote, after doing some 1.3 compatibilitization (so a word!) to it, and once Brian gets the time, he’ll put it up on his site for everyone to download.

In other news, I sent in my iPod for repairs today. I’ve also got the box for my Powerbook down at the office, just need to backup the harddrive and it’ll go in too. I hope the wait won’t be too long.

Either way, I think I have most of the things I need to run the world without it, but in case I disappear from the surface of the Earth; well now you know who to lynch.

  • Could you possibly put this in Kubrick 1.3.0? This is a great idea and one I like. The gravatar and live previews are the other two from Freya that I like also.

  • I’ll be waiting for the code! It has amazed me that Matt and the boys haven’t put this function into WordPress yet. Oh and be sure to put my address on the box for your powerbook. I swear I’ll send it to apple repairs. ;-)

  • I have by now seen a million (more or less) ways of handling trackback and comments, and I must say, this is by far the nicest way. The only thing missing is some way of showing a summary of the entry the ping refers to (tooltip looks nice, but will probably be too much for longer text).

Fingers crossed about the iPod and PowerBook.

  • Just noticed a “problem” in the ping list for the LiveSearch entry. When you pinged it from this entry, you beautiful enty title is molested, obviously there is some entity replacing going on which shouldn’t.

  • Indeed.. Pingback’s seem to include some elements that should get striped, things like dividers, arrows, etc.. Short of stripping all formatting, I’m not sure how you can get around title munging.

  • The problem is that WP changes things like » to »

I tried to fix it a few weeks ago, but was having only limited success.

  • I would very much like also to peek at the code in question! Consider this my official vote and endorsement-of-coolness.

  • Yeah it’s problematic how WordPress does that. So far I’ve been manually editing all pings…

  • Count me in for the code. (Not that I’ll really know what to do with it, and not that I’ve got many pinks/tracks… but damn it, it’s cool.)

  • A little something you could definitely put into Kubrick for extra <a href=“http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=pizzazz>pizzazz.

  • Heres hoping you have a short wait for the return of your iPod and Powerbook. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have my powerbook.

  • I’d love to read how you do that.

Oh, and by the way, the link to the Livesearch post points to the comments on that post.

  • I mean, of course it does. But maybe there should be a #pingbacks anchor?
