It Draws Near

Saruman and his Palantir

Rikke and I gnawed our way through the first two installments of the Rings trilogy this weekend, in preparation for the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Extended Edition)later this week. Hard to believe that it is drawing to a close; but timely perhaps. I suspect you will see very little of me around next weekend for the same reason.

Now for wrath, now for ruin and a red dawn!

  • I am planning on having a big movie-thon once sometime soon. This and then Star Wars…this year’s gonna be good. By the way, nice blog. I love the design.

  • Ha! i am waiting for the different thing in the same category.

LOTR: Battle of the Middle Earth.

Its like the first strategy gamefrom this franchais. We both are going to enjoy ourselves this month.

  • I am working on renting out the Kentucky Theatre one Saturday to show all three movies via thier digital projection system. 12 hours of big screen goodness, now with potluck!

I am hoping to get it together in January or February, so look for pictures in March!

  • 12 hours? Goodness, I don’t know if I could keep staring at a screen for 12 hours. But I’d be willing to give it a shot. I have Christmas break coming up…

  • Actually it’s about 20 minutes short of the 12 hour mark, but still enough to freeze your eyesockets.

We decided not to do a ring’o‘thon this time around, so that we can enjoy the first encounter with the EE.

  • There are two movie-thon in my plans: Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.
I hope I’ll manage both on Christmas break! ;)

  • Well, if you take a ten minute break between each movie you would reach the 12 hours :)

  • Having done the original Star Wars trilogy straight through twice, I can safely say that there is no way I’d be able to do LOTR hardcore-style. They movies absolutely rock, but 12 hours of fantasy is too much – even for me.

  • A few weekends ago my partner and I, did the “theater release” marathon of watching all 3 LOTR films in one session (second such time we’ve done this).

I’m looking forward to the eventual 3 film box set which has all 3 extended additions, and then repeating said marathon.

Granted, one’s eyes feel’s as though they have been permanently welded open, but by god it’s worth it..

We did a marathon of the starwars episodes 4, 5 and 6 shortly after getting the box set, and although that was pretty hard core, we’re expecting we may need drip feed (sustinance) for the marathon EE release of LOTR. :)

  • I’ve collected the extended cuts since they released the fellowship. I cant wait to complete my collection. I’ve already done the Star Wars marathon and last night completed the Matrix Marathon with some friends of mine on my HDTV. Cant wait for this one. Definately going to need the entire day with lots of cold beer and popcorn.

  • I’m literally counting the days!

  • I’m anxiously awaiting the Extended Edition boxset… I’ve resisted buying any of the films up until now because I knew it was in the works. To finally get them all on DVD, with all the extras, will be bliss!

Hrmm. Perhaps I should upgrade my DVD player and sound system while I’m at it, to do them justice! My G/F would love that! “Any excuse”, as they say…

  • One day soon, all of you villianous scum need to block out some time out of your pitiful rebel lives to sit down with your so-called honies and watch me grow up from just a boy into the man (and father, you can’t escape me, son!) that ruled the universe.

THIS time, you will stay glued in your seats without popcorn and watch all six movies without potty breaks!

Your ass belongs to ME, now!
[looking aside, and quietly asking TK-421 to calculate the total time for all six movies…]

  • aw man, no photos allowed (of Darth)?

  • I’ve just turned them on now :)

  • I’m with Bjorn, twelve hours of Elijah Wood = Death.

  • I, for one, am also really looking forward to Saruman’s last stand. As a colleague so plainly said, it’ll be bliss to marinate in that universe an entire weekend.

As for ROTK specifically, I did think the ending was some 30 minutes too long. On the other hand that was in the theatre (with no pause) – maybe It’ll improve on DVD? It’ll also be nice to see some colour in the digital color grading after TTT which was, in my opinion, graded too bluish for too long.

  • I’ve been waiting for Dec 14th ever since ROTK came out in theatres … I’ll be laying around watching the EE and all the extras for a couple days straight! 24 hours of ROTK … can’t wait …

  • Aww man I can’t wait for this movie.

  • There are times living in Australia is a pain. For example, delays in DVD’s hitting official relase here can be some months after most overseas locations.

Finally received The Ultimate Matrix Collection today, yay!

I’ve now got 10 DVD’s worth of content to chew through, so I’m thinking a Matrix Marathon might be in order this weekend.

  • Can’t wait for my movie marathon! Going to include lots of caffeine, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Matrix trilogy, and all 6 Star Wars movies! Were talking almost 36 hours! Got another year and a half or so to wait though, but it will be worth it. Hopefully by then I will have a bigger TV!

  • Brendan, just FYI, the ROTK Extended Edition is released tomorrow (10th) in Australia. We received stock (at Target) today, and we were allowed to sell it today as there was no embargo placed on it.

I picked up my copy.. well my mum did :p

  • just ordered it! thanks for the recommendation. :)
