Let me see, Hell freeze over? Check. My hair growing back out? Check. Duke Nukem Forever released?… Okay, so it hasn’t come to that yet. Nevertheless, today is something to mark down in your calendar. It’s not everyday little buttercup Denmark gets to join the big boys. Our very own iTMS.
This is great of course, and I’m looking forward to finding something on there to buy. But for now I’m a tad underwhelmed to be quite honest. First of all, the browsing feature, which seems like the primary way of finding things, lists artists with whom the iTMS carries no material! Try digging into Audiobooks > Sci Fi & Fantasy > Aldous Huxley… Nothing. Okay, let’s try something else then. Go to the Disney genre (can you believe they got an entire genre for themselves!), and then just pick anything. About one in fifty will get you something, the rest are empty.
What. The. Fuck.
Moving right along, let’s have a look at Seal: The Acoustic Session. Read the Album Notes and then look at the track listing… Make sense? No, I didn’t think so. Furthermore, the US iTMS has a weekly free track available for download. What do we get? Nothin’.
Though we have of course been blessed with a single iMix by some idiot user; namely Blink-182: Greatest Hits 1994 – 2005. Which of course is an oxymoron; there is no such thing as a great hit by Blink 182.
A final insult? Alrighty then:

A bit expensive for a one-track ‘album’, dontcha think?
Too little too late? Unless they get their ass in gear, hell yes.

Hi,
Now, I doubt that your much of a Stereophonics fan, but nevertheless, I am – and if you search for them on the DK iTMS, you will find all of their albums (including their latest one) for the fantastic price of 9.99KR (£1), which is surely a mistake, but an excellent price regardless ;)
Just thought I would publish that somewhere, where somebody could benefit from it :@)
And here’s where to find them. i’m not a particular fan, but I’ll have a couple of albums at that price ;)
Seems it’s impossible to actually buy anything… Though I have of course only tried the ones that have outrageously low prices :)
Now on to some DRM stripping.
There; my first purchase was Placebo with Sleeping with Ghosts.
By the way. prices are listed wrongly across the store. One place has The Future of Music listed at 11.95dkr while it actually costs 69.00dkr.
Heh, I’ve found quite a few of those “one track albums”, selling at 80.00KR, which is kinda funny… another one here – anyway to say somthing positive about the whole affair: then 80KR (£7.18) is quite a good price compared to the standard £7.99 (89KR) price for an album (with more than 1 track ;)…
Yeah, but it’s a poor price compared to the US store, which is 57dkr…
Well, there is 25% sales tax in Denmark: 57 * 1,25 = 71,25 which is a lot closer to the 80 or 89 kr. than 57.
Well, the prices are just damn ridiculous!
Jonas, good point.
Couldn’t you buy a gift certificate in USD and then use it in the Danish iTMS since the exchange rate is so bad, well good for Danes and bad for me? Or have an allowance setup to an account? If you want to experiment, let me know.
be thankful for what you have, we aussies are still waiting for ours (have you heard the tale of the russell crowe saga…)

Funny thing, for the Swedish iTMS you can get a song for 9 SEK – but a whole album for 9,99 SEK. Better hurry, before Apple discovers that they have pooped on the floor.
Niice, finally! It came to the whole Scandinavia, it seems. :D
Just a note about the weekly free track for download, in the Canadian ITMS we didn’t get that until a few weeks ago. And we’ve had the ITMS since December 1st 2004. And it’s never the same free track as the US ITMS or the UK ITMS. So it might be a few months before you see it. Hopefully not.
Iceland doesn’t have any ;l
Same thing happened with iTMS Canada. Over a couple of weeks, the issues got sorted out (missing tracks got filled in, free music Tuesdays got fired up, etc…)
Be patient… It will all work eventually. :-)
“My hair growing back out? Check.”
This we all must see! Upload a photo of you looking like Chewbacca :-)
What happens when Duke Nukem Forever is released? Michael making the switch back to Windows? ;-)
If it is any consolation the iTMS was pretty lackluster when it first opened in the States. Be happy we sorted most of the bugs wy back then. The stuff you’re talking about is minor by comparison. :) It will all get sorted soon enough.
Regarding Disney having their own genre, good. Makes it easier for me to avoid.
I say so what if the red cadillac with white cross-stripes has “a bad motivator.” At least it rolls. at some point the dk-æpfel dudes will upgrade it and put hydraulics on it. then you’ll be rollin’ and bouncin’, dog.
[speakers bump as car putters off…]
Part of the lackluster selection may have to do with the fact that phonophile is responsible for a large part of danish online music. All their music is protected with Microsoft’s DRM, and appearantly [link in danish] they don’t feel like removing it just for the benefit of iTMS.
Regarding the problem with finding any audiobooks in browsemode. Try doubleclicking on Aldous Huxley. You’ll get a nice surprise.
They seem to have fixed some of the things. In the disney genre is for example The Incredibles – The Remix EP for no more than 8,- kr. If you’re at all into electronic type music and liked the incredibles I can recommend it.
Jonas… you rule. I just got that, its a total bargain.
