K2 Beta Two r157

Fixing the broken AJAX (file-name mismatch) and a batch of other bugs from the bug tracker, r157 is now available from the usual place.

And on a related note, Dave has updated his FlickrRSS plugin to v3.0, which K2 of course supports.

And let me again chime in with a plea: If you encounter any bugs or if you’re planning on doing something with our code and there’s some way we can help you by making changes to the core, then please, let us know. The easiest way is to file a bug report, which you can be certain we look at, and then we’ll take it from there. I’ve already helped several people who’ve requested minor changes to the code, to make it easier for them to create their custom styles. And now is the time, before we get too close to the final release.

As usual, support questions, tips and tricks, general shenanigans and the talk of fairies go in the support forum.

Update: Fixed the missing authors on entries in r157.

  • Nice job. Keep up the good work. Also, try implenting live gravatars to K2. I’m doing it on K2 at my site right now.

  • ch0de, if it works out for you, and you want to share it, ship me the code, and I’ll see what I can do.

  • Sure. (If I get it working thought).

BTW Mike, your about list of the plugins isn’t working. It’s showed some code. Really wanted to see what plugins you use.

P.S: How do I ship you the code? Email? What email?

  • Very well done Michael.

But one question: Why is that live search javascript done in a procedural way? It would be far easier and safer to implement it in a more object oriented way. The code also relies too much on the provided HTML markup. This makes customizations even more complicated and not as robust as it could be.

Don’t get me wrong, it works nice. But it seems that this piece of code doesn’t fit to the rest of K2.

  • Sophie, the livesearch code is actually some of the oldest code in K2. I’ve planned to make a new version eventually, but since it works alright at the moment, it’s kind of low on the priority list.

  • Mike, I got it all ready (The Live Gravatar!). Tell me where to email it to you. Or hit me up with an email. It’s in my comment.

I’m still evaluating K2 for my new Website, it seems like a very good basis for my own design ideas, but that livesearch – well – it just doesn’t fit. I guess I have to roll out my own implementation.

Are you planning to stay with the prototype and Script.aculo.us frameworks?

  • Works like a charm, now that I take nots of what changes I make, lol Thanks !

  • Is there a changelog available?… because I translate the text to spanish… and I have to do it everytime I update K2, so if you have a changelog i could only replace the changed files.

    tnx in advance

  • If somebody is interested, k2diff is back in business. :)

  • wow thanks. how to install this one. should i just overwrite the all file?

If you mean the k2diff file, just overwrite the files, but don’t forget to make a backup! (Sidenote: You need the previous release of K2 installed to update from the k2beta*-diff.zip pack otherwise use the patch file.)

  • Is there a document somewhere, or list, that depicts what changes have been made since beta 1?

  • Awesome, I’d been looking for that bug reports link. I’m all setup on Mantis so I’ll be on the lookout for any bugs.

  • Thanks to Michael and all the others who contributed to this special Wordpress Theme.

  • The ZIP archive seems to be broken…

  • Have you tried downloading it again?

  • Thanks for the upgrade, i was getting crazy trying to fix the problem related with the live search. :)

K2 is great! … i have a question though, am i the only one whose ajax comments arent working properly? When posting a comment it says “anonymous” instead of the name of the person who wrote it and it doesn’t show up the date. I have to reload the page to see the comment properly :S

  • Hi. K2 really looks great and I’m considering trying it soon. But I see that you are using what seems to be a slight variation from the almost official feed icon. Why not use the real deal (www.feedicons.com)?

  • Because I think, at that size, the dot does more harm than good. I made a judgement call that it was close enough to the ‘official’ feed icon that everyone would understand its purpose.

  • Okay, guess you have a point there. :)

  • This was a great post!

  • XD

So many revisions – I’m just going to wait and let the bugs cool down before upgrading again,

  • First off, sweet job on 2.0!!! It looks like you have the quote_comments plugin working with this version perfectly. I was looking at installing it, but the new version doesn’t paste the actual comment in the reply field…it instead pastes a reference to the comment ID which makes it impossible to edit any part of the quote. Are you using the old version of the plugin or did you modify the new one? I couldn’t seem to get the old one to work with the AJAX comments.

Everything just works and looks so smooth here!!! Nice work!!!

Yes, Michael. It works now (and r157 too…)
    Thanks

  • I love this theme.

Ah…got the old working for me now! This theme is just killer…VERY nice job!!!!

  • Great work. K2 is my favorite WordPress theme. I wish the IE incompatibility would go away. I tried fixing it myself to no avail as I am not particularly good with CSS. Unfortunately, with IE still holding more than 80% of the browser market, the bug looks like a showstopper to me for a lot of people. I know Michael doesn’t have access to IE. Perhaps one of you other gurus out there could try to fix this?

  • Dude, Ed… IE shows K2 perfectly for me…

  • Hello,

Can I ask what theme you used on binary bonsai.

  • It’s not for ‘resale’, sorry.
