Ring, Reign… Whatever

REIGN of Fire, Not Ring!

Best forum topic ever.

No Shouting on Flickr

Interesting little ‘feature’ on Flickr. You can’t write all capital letters. Aye, tis be true, try it. It’ll convert it to properly capitalized sentences…

Nofollow Has Noeffect

Dylan says:

Since its enthusiastic adoption a year and a half ago, by Google, Six Apart, WordPress, and of course the eminent Dave Winer, I think we can all agree that nofollow has done … nothing. Comment spam? Thicker than ever. It’s had absolutely no effect on the volume of spam. That’s probably because comment spammers don’t give a crap, because the marginal cost of spamming is so low. Also, nofollow-tagged links are still links, which means that humans can still click on them – and if humans can click, there’s a chance somebody might visit the linked sites after all.

I of course hate being the obnoxious asshole shouting ‘I fucking told you so!’ (that’s not true), still… I told you so.

Offline Wikipedia?

I’ll be heading to Jutland this weekend, where I’ll spend a couple of days with no Internet access. And it hit me that I would miss Wikipedia quite a bit, as I’ve been using it for reference quite a bit lately. But then I came to thinking, Wikipedia is available for download, but that would require of me to jump through all kinds of hoops to get it up and running.

What I really want is a Wikipedia Offline dashboard widget or something to that effect. Anyone know of any projects to this effect?

PS: Lifehacker has a local Wikipedia tutorial

X-Men 3 and Da Vinci

Hold on tight as we launch into one-sentence movie reviews for people who are too busy to ponder the details of things:

X-Men 3: The Last Stand

Brett Ratner is certainly no Brian Singer, but The Last Stand does manage not only to stay in the style of the first two movies, but also close up most of the lingering storylines in a fairly satisfactory way, as well as provide you with some ‘dude, awesome!’ moments along the way, many of which are actually lit tremendously well, despite the fact that it seems like either money or time was a factor as there are some minor effects here and there that could have used a bit more love, but hey the goddamn Golden Gate bridge gets lifted by Magneto, so I guess that makes up for the neutering of Wolverine and the offing of several of the major characters.

Thumbs Up and a well-earned opening day.

The Da Vinci Code

Literally ‘by the book’ in the most stiff and uninteresting manner possible, which is a shame, as I’d heard that Dan Brown had received an offer to turn it into a 24-like TV-series, which in my humble opinion would have been a much more interesting move.

Thumbs Down.

Both had Ian McKellen, and he steals all the attention from everyone. Also,

Poseidon. Confusion.

Dear Marketing Guys: Please make up your mind, is it a white futuristic font, or a black serif font? Compare and Contrast:

Blade Runner Final Cut

Blade Runner is possibly the best movie ever made. Period. Rikke and I were recently lucky enough to catch a theater showing of the Director’s Cut in Cinemateket, which was pure pleasure, even the parts I slept though… Ehm… It was late, okay?:”(Cinemateket is having a large showing of Roger Corman movies in June, in case you like me enjoy yourself a bit of movie history, like Death Race 2000)”:.

The reason I’m mentioning this, is that after literally years of waiting, rumors going this way and that, the Blade Runner Final Cut DVD has finally found its way out of the legal hellhole it’s been living in, and is making its way to stores in September 2007! But that’s not all:

“Blade Runner: Final Cut” will arrive in 2007 for a limited 25th anniversary theatrical run, followed by a special edition DVD with the three previous versions offered as alternate viewing: Besides the original theatrical version and director’s cut, the expanded international theatrical cut will be included. The set will also contain additional bonus materials. “#”:http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=14724

This is great news indeed! Finally this, one of the very cornerstones of modern cinema, will gets its due. It breaks my heart to see movies like Pearl Harbor get the full treatment while Blade Runner and 2001 are allowed to be released in sub-par DVD versions that don’t do them proper justice.

By the way, if one was so inclined, one might be able to procure a HD version of Blade Runner off of UseNet. Just sayin’.

Hitman: Blood Money

Hitman: Blood Money hits the stores today, and I just got my hands on my special edition copy. And let me tell you, it is nice! Possibly the best looking game cover I’ve ever seen. I’ll see if I can’t find a camera somewhere to get a shot of me with it and post here.

Anyway, tonight is the big release party, which if one were to judge from the last party, about two years ago, it’s only going to be the coolest party ever! So yeah, I’m pretty stoked, and then of course it’s also kinda cool seeing one’s name on the credits of a major game title (even if my contribution has been quite minimal).

So anyway, the weekend is set aside for a major hangover (and a 1am showing of X3)

Fantasy Junction

Fantasy Junction

When Rasmus and I went to visit Pixar in May, 2005, we happened upon a car dealership of sorts, Fantasy Junction, just down the road from Pixar’s HQ (luckily, taxi’s are impossible to get from the sidewalk in Oakland).

They were incredibly sweet and let us walk freely amongst these insanely expensive and positively steamingly hot cars, despite our rugged looks and Danish demeanor.

The reason I’m mentioning this now, is that in the CARS video podcast (xml) episode from the 16th called ‘Talkin’ Cars’, Jay Ward (whom we met while at Pixar, seemed like a standup guy) and some dude from an auto magazone visit Fantasy Junction and check out the cars.

And yeah, I’m all won over for Cars, it looks awesome. It’s beaaautiful.

Anyway, I put together a Fantasy Junction Flickr set (nice new organizr by the way), I would’ve liked to have taken some more shots in there, but this is what it amounted to.

A Day Like Today

Kaneda

In an apparent attempt to compensate for its absence, the sun has decided to bring its full strength to bear on a Copenhagen in dire need of some revitalising after an eternity half a year of drab grey skies.

I went to Fantask, our local geek store and picked up Hellboy: Seed of Destruction as well as, quite shamelessly, a new Zits (Crack of Noon). Really I should have started collecting Hellboy a long time ago; I hang my head in shame.

While I was there, I stumbled onto issue 4 of The Walking Dead, and suddenly remembered that I had bought issue 3 a while back, but never got around to reading it (I started reading Walking Dead last year).

With Rikke at work, I hunkered up on our bed with a Coke, some chokolate and a friendly warm ray sunshine to keep me company.

I finished the first of the two Akira volumes I’d gotten yesterday from Amazon. And despite wanting so badly to read the second as well, I don’t want to waste it away just like that. Even though it ain’t easy! I guess I’ll have to get the remaining four volumes one of these days.

So I read me some Walking Dead 3 instead, drank some coke, lounged in the sun with the occasional gentle breeze from the open windows letting me know that while this may seem like a good day, it is nothing compared to the summer lying ahead.

Now, what might you be up to a day like today?
