John Milius on Apocalypse Now

I picked up The Apocalypse Now Book recently, and I’m eager to read it. Few movies — in fact, I can’t think of any off the top of my head — are as all-engrossing and poetic to me as Apocalypse Now.

I would buy the recent Dossier edition DVD set, but it still isn’t available in Denmark, and Sandrew-Metronome won’t allow for Danish stores to carry the region 1 set. Understandable; imagine what would happen if I could just walk into a store and buy it?! The horror. The horror.

Anyway, as you may know, Apocalypse now was written by a variety of people, but it was originally a John Milius screenplay. Now while I’m a bit of a leftie, and Milius is quite the rightie, it’s a paradox why I like Milius as much as I do, but… I do.

So I dug up A Barbarian Inside the Gates. It comes with the following video as well:

And as a special hey-it’s-friday-and-the-weather-is-good-bonus, here is a small clip from the wonderful Hearts of Darkness documentary:

  • I have the Dossier edition,it’s lacking. It features both versions, Redux and non-Redux.But instead of putting Redux on one disc and non-Redux on a seperate discs they put half of each on individual discs, err,it ruins the flow.
That and why o’ why hasn’t the documentary,Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse wasn’t included ? Maybe one day Criterion will give us the full feast.
