Sarah Connor & Rambo Trailers

Alright, just got back from a wedding back in Jutland to find the trailer for Rambo IV and The Sarah Conner Chronicles online. And wow, I’ve got to admit, Rambo sort of caught me off guard there! That thing is _blooo-oody!_Could be good, unless they spent all their money shot on the trailer. Personally, I think it’ll be quite entertaining, and that’s about it.

As for The Sarah Conner Chronicles… What was that about? Now a) I’m biased to not liking it and b) It’s a trailer for a TV show, which isn’t the easiest thing to do. But not only did the story look altogether meh, the casting just looks to be downright horrid. Let me see, Sarah Connor looks like a housewife, John Connor is a pretty-boy with no edge (picture him cruising hazardously through traffic on an off-roader with GnR blasting from the ghettoblaster… No? Didn’t think so) and the Terminator? Could he look more bland?

And not bland in the ‘Lance Henriksen blending into crowds and looking fucked up creepy’ kinda way, just ‘who is that again?’-bland.

Gah!

All things considered, I do think a TV show could be fashioned around the Terminator franchise; there’s a lot of cool stuff that could be done, especially in todays TV market. But this just looks like a dud to me.

And seriously, stop trying to gain the favor of fans by reiterating lines from the first two movies. Cameron got away with it, but Mostow’s sorry attempt to sidestep it in a humorous way (“She’ll be back” and “I’m back”) was neigh catastrophic, and so I predict will this be.

But then, I’m getting old and grumpy.

PS: The Transformers trailer looks… pretty good :) — I rest easy in not having to hate on Michael Bay, and simply sit down, shut up and enjoy some big explosions; and the Transformers trailer promises that much.

  • Rambo is…wow. The war is a fucking bloody business, and this movie does not hides it. At all. Just the way I liked HBO’s Rome, I like this one too.

  • Yeah! Fuckin’ yeah! Rambo actually looks good! I was worried that nearly a 20 year gap would have made Sly Stallone rusty, but as far as the trailer’s concerned, he’s back to kick some ass. (On a side note, Rocky Balbao wasn’t half bad either).

As for this Sarah Connor business.. seems like this is really going to be the last nail in the proverbial coffin. Oh well, hopefully somebody likes this Hollywood-garbage.

  • Lena Heady is a good actress and all, but Jesus, just because she played a Spartan in 300 doesn’t make her Sarah Connor. Linda Hamilton was toned and muscular in T2. Lena Heady is a twig. :(

The dude who plays John Connor is fucking stupid. And Sumner Glau as a good-guy terminator? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Nevermind that this doesn’t fit in with the established timeline. At all. It even breaks continuity with T3.

And all the high school shit in there makes it look like they’re trying to do Smallville, but with Terminators and shit. “Coming up next on Terminatorville, John Connor learns an important lesson about life, love, and responsibility.”

Hopefully this, and T4, will be utter failures, ruining the idiots who ruined the Terminator franchise.

  • Uhm, anyone who thought the, err, soda-pop trash masquerading as Terminator was, well, going to be like Terminator, hasn’t seen what the likes of the Sci-Fi channel did to some established genres.

Who can forget their epic take on the Babylon 5 genre? “We live for the one, we die for the one.. but not today!” – so yeah, the entire idea looks bad because they producers and developers do not understand the genre.

I’m not entirely sure that a Terminator-esque TV series could be done – they have to look at who they base it on – like Star Wars, a live action TV series about Han, Luke and Leia wouldn’t work any more than a series about Obiwan would.

At least the star-wars universe is big enough that any story lines could easily follow many other characters – the Terminator franchise doesn’t have anything story wise other than John or Sarah to follow..

T4 will rehash the same idea over yet again – imho even T3 was starting to have that deja vu feeling to it.

However, the same cannot be said for Rambo IV. War is hideous and cruel and bloody and one hell of a messy, mind-altering concept. The trailer seems to capture the whole idea quite well. And it looks like it might actually be more than just a vehicle for Stallone and early 80’s style corny lines.

I’ll wait for the direct-to-dvd Babylon 5 instalments instead, I think. At least that universe hasn’t been tapped out, yet. :)

  • Don’t forget that First Blood, the first Rambo movie, was a social commentary about the treatment of Vietnam vets when they returned to the US, and wasn’t the “Watch as Stallone wipes out an entire army!” type of Reagan-era 80s action film that the sequels were.

  • But… but… Summer Glau!

I’m kinda-maybe a bit cautiously hopeful about Chronicles. It’ll probably suck and/or get promptly canceled though. It’s Fox doing it, after all.

And the Transformers trailer had me sitting with a big shit-eating grin through the entire thing.

  • And on the subject of Terminators, I randomly discovered this deleted scene from T3. Kinda funny, which is probably why it got cut.

  • T3 deleted scene…..I’m lost for words. That…and I’m actualy not kidding here….is the worst I have ever seen. EVER! Jeez, these guys nedd to be pulled over by the humor police.

    Rambo= Guilty pleasure.

    Transformers= Guilty pleasure

Chronicles. I actually like the John guy. Sarah? No way in hell am I bying her. But I guess that leaves some room for growth then…..?! The Terminator is laughable. But I guess Arnold is aswell, in a way. Whatever.

  • Oh My Maker… That was truly bad. I don’t even… What can I say? How in the…

I’m surprised they didn’t keep it in there, what with the sunglasses and tits jokes…

As for ‘room for growth’ Poulsen, remember the series takes place between T2 and T3, which means Sarah has already been to the desert and become guerrilla-Sarah…

And Arnold laughable? Have you even seen T1? :D

  • Riight. I was joking though. But shure She’s hella mean in T2. In an angsty kind of way, but still :)
Jeez. I just rewhatched the Rambo trailer. Listen to the music. It’s really industrial and menacing. No hero bullshit, no Michael Bay and Zimmer. The movie’s propably not scored yet, so it might be something they just threw on. Anyways, the choice seems weird if not interesting to me.

  • Like I said, if Lena Headey were to work out and bulk up to about where Linda Hamilton was for T2, it’d be fine, since she’s an OK actress. As she is, though, she doesn’t fit the part. Hardass, tough-as-nails women with extensive weapons, combat, and demolition training actually have muscle.

But the dude who plays John Connor is just so wrong that I don’t even know where to start. Bad acting? Check. Way too metro? Check. Whiny suburban white-boy high school crap? Check.

  • I couldn’t have said it better myself :)
