So why has Twitter been so misunderstood? Because it’s experiential. Scrolling through random Twitter messages can’t explain the appeal. You have to do it — and, more important, do it with friends. #
Indeed; it took me a while before I finally wound up appreciating Twitter’s appeal. Unfortunately for me, most of my real life friends are so internet lethargic that they’ll finally ‘get’ Twitter by the time the rest of us have moved on to… well to something that’s much much cooler and future-like! So there.
Now, if only Pownce wasn’t causing a schism in the quiposphere.
Up yours, internet dweeb! :)
Twitter, Jaiku and now Pownce. I’m confused.
There’s a way to make them work together, Pownce and Twitter that is. And, I’m pretty sure Jaiku too. They all publish RSS feeds and there are ways to integrate those. One method is to publish your Pownce feed to Twitter via Twitterfeed.
Pownce just has more on offer than Twitter, I feel.
If you twitter on the Internet and no friends are there to read it did you really twitter at all?
(I have no friends on Twitter, either….completely seems to defeat the point)
Pownce seems to have jumped (pounced? ouch!) on the Jaiku bandwagon which Twitter took and stripped all the unnecessary chaff from. Unfortunately, it looks to be a backwards step from the genius simplicity of Twitter.
Pownce though, being a ‘Kevin Rose Creation ®’ has all the internetsers big names over it like a rash so it’s grown immensely.
And yes I do have a Pownce account, I just cant help flinging myself on the back of all the bandwagons just like everyone else.
..Maybe I should Tweet that Ive just commented….
You know, sometimes, it’s ok to just jump on a bandwagon. The retort “jumped on the bandwagon” is the kind of thing I usually hear from people that hear about a band 2 months before I did. And, now that I’m finally getting to hear them they’re not cool anymore and neither am I for liking them 2 months late.
You say, “Kevin Rose Creation” like that’s a bad thing. Is it not cool to like Digg or Kevin Rose anymore? Must be “sooo 2 months ago”.
Twitter may have “genius simplicity” but what if I just want that one extra thing that Twitter doesn’t do? I thought we were all about competition and a big market and open source and things of that nature.
I like Twitter. I also like Pownce. They’re not mutually exclusive. And, in time, I’ll settle into the one I ultimately prefer. But, I’m not gonna get my knickers in a twist just cause one came out a year ago and the other just showed up with features not everyone wants or will use.

You know 2 months is a LONG time on this internet thing, Im sure we will have a good few more sites competing in the same area as Twitter et al in 2 months time. Im just saying, make sure you you get on these internet bandwagons quicker than 2 months.

Im simply basing my comment on my experience with Digg and it’s users – not a good one.

That’s good, competition is good. I don’t think I said it was bad, maybe you read something more into what I wrote.

Well they are kind of.

Whose knickers are in a twist? Not mine. I’m using Twitter and playing with Pownce, Jaiku however just has feeds from both and some other feeds.
I used to love messing about on Twitter, updating via my phone and Twitterific where possible.
Along came Pownce, I got my invite signed up and lost interest immediately with it, but worse still it has rubbed off on my Twitter usage. At present I just can not see the point in it.
I’m sure it will pass and it will kick off again but I wonder if it was a case of too many chefs, or rather too many social networks.
I probably did. I suppose I was just looking for a head to bite off.
