Mass Effect Podcast

Bad Guy. Obviously.

Dear Bioware,

I cannot wait for Mass Effect. Sure, I’m having fun with Halo 3 right now, but we all know you’re the one that’s going to make the coming winter sustainable. But I thought I’d point out to you that while you may be calling it a podcast, since you do not have any kind of feed, to which I can subscribe, all you really have are a bunch of audio files on a web server.

That’s not a podcast.

Thanks,
Mike

Managing Halo 3 Screenshots?

Can someone explain to how to manage an upload my screenshots in Halo 3? I’ve hit the upper limit of 50, but none of them are showing up on bungie.net, and I don’t know how to prune them out (except through the theater -> Film -> Film Share -> Screenshots, which is… cumbersome, to say the least).

And no, I will not shut up about teh Halo already.

Update: Might be the Bungie servers that’re backlogged, as ten screenshots just popped up while I was watching a couple of Freaks and Geeks episodes.

Further Thoughts on Halo 3

Pwnage

That’s me on the left there, holding the pwnager, as I like to call it. You see, I had some time today to play through several, rather entertaining multiplayer matches, using the built-in matchmaker. It was overall, rather fun (have a look yourself, if you own Halo 3), though hectic and even in ‘team matches’, almost entirely one-on-one… Business as usual in other words.

My Halo 3 Profile

Yep, gots me one o’ them too.

Halo 3 Review

I finished Halo 3 in one sitting. It’s been years since I finished a game in one sitting.

TF2 is Fun

See how Sasha likes that you big flaming retard!

Mazy is looking good!_0002

Yeah, I still suck, but it’s sure is fun.

Humanized’s Enso and Stuff

The guys at Humanized, whom I’ve mentioned before, have been gradually updating Enso and releasing a range of new plugins, like media remote and search. If you’re caught on Windows, definitely check them out.

Also head on over and check out the easy undo and transparent messages vs. dialog’s articles both of which are influencing my future plans for K2.

Which, on a sidenote, reminds me how much I enjoy it when companies like Humanized (or Panic for that matter) take time to publish thoughtful material like that.

I promised a while back to buy Enso if it fell below $20; but even though I don’t have that much use for it due to the way I work on my Windows machine, I’m willing to pay for Enso to support their company just for their ‘extracurricular’ activities.

Lifehacker Does Xbox Media Center

I’m a huge proponent of Xbox Media Center. That is, an old Xbox, chipped, with XBMC installed on it, to make it the ultimate SD media center ever in the world of the history of everything (you can make it go HD, but it requires changing the CPU and getting special cables). I literally had my Xbox chipped the day I got it (DMCA? I don’t think so.), some 5 – 6 years ago, and I’ve been loving it ever since.

Best of all, it will play anything. Any non-DRM’d format you throw at it; plays it. Is your film rar’d and zip’d and split into 100 files, packed in an ISO and in VOB files?… Guess what? Yep, plays it.

Lifehacker has a rundown of what XBMC has to offer.

Per Month vs. Per Year XBL Membership

It’s worth getting up and going in to check whether you’re paying per month or per year for your Xbox Live Gold membership. One is considerably more expensive than the other.

Unpimping the WP Admin Inputs

Man, it’s 3am and I’m still going. It’s been a while since I last did that. But then, it is bachelor weekend, so… (watched MST3K the Movie yesterday while coding up new K2 hotness).

It’s shaping up quite well by the way, and if you haven’t noticed, we put up a K2 release candidate yesterday. Since then I’ve been up to my elbows in snazzifying it even more, which brings me to my problem.

I’ve been working on the sidebar manager, which is where I’ve been spending most of my dev time as of late. But I’ve hit a snag; we have standard input’s in there — like submit buttons — and as with every input element in the WP admin, it gets mauled by a horrible 1px border and grey background combo, which is just… ill conceived.

But hey; we are our own masters, at least over the K2 option pages. So we’ll just unstyle them! Hah!

But… how? How do you undo a border and background for a button? I don’t know! Do you?

PS: Yeah, I know the background is yellow; I just needed to wake up my eyes.

Screencasting Software

If you know of some neat screencasting software, let me know. Windows or OS X; either is fine.

Styling for Pirate Day

I wrote a small tip on how to piratize K2 (and other themes using Sandbox’s semantic classes) automagically.

Pattern Keys

X-Ray Skull

Enjoyment is your brain rewarding you for recognizing and combining complex and semi-complex patterns in new and — to the brain, because it helps it survive — interesting ways; good brain, here’s a twinkey.

Recognizing patterns and acting on previous experience of similar patterns is what our brain does. Poke the bear with the stick, it attacks. That’s bad. Thus, do not poke the bear with the stick. Lesson learned.

My River of Music

Closeup

I’m such a infographics whore, I swear. So you can imagine what this river of music does for me… Oh mama!

Check out the fullsize river of music, showing off the good, the bad and the terrible music I’ve been listening to over the last year, and head on over to make your own. And thank you Matthew for floating this.

PS: To convert it to an image and upload it to flickr, open it with Photoshop and save it out as a JPEG. Embed the 500px version here and let thee be judged ;)

Kinda Diggin’ Tumblr

I’ll skip the whole ‘this is what tumblr is, in relation to all of these other, pseudo-similar web 2.0 sites’ and simply say that I’m kind of falling in love with tumblr. I’m not 100% committed yet, and I’m still feeling my way around it, but it is pretty nice, I must say.

Oh yeah, I’m by the way also digging my new wireless Apple keyboard, which is tiny! And which, for some unknown reason, let’s my wireless mouse run properly on the Mac Mini! This is great! I am now largely desktop wireless!

Fuck flying cars, the future is here!

What’s Gravatars Like These Days?

Do any of you have any experience with using gravatars these days? I’m trying to figure out if K2 should retain support for the gravatars plugin or not, and I haven’t personally had gravatars activated for a very long time, so I’m not quite sure if it’s still worth using or not.

Sunday. Dispatches.

Started the day off with scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and ‘my mouth was just reborn’-cold juice. Went for a walk around Copenhagen, uneventful in its usual ‘no stores are open, and the tourists didn’t see that coming’-sunday slumber.

Then we lounged out on the bed, each of us with a book, the comfortable sense of each other and the gracious luck of not having any intrusions. That is, by the way, not a bad way to spend a day.

Internet Explorer 7.0 Rocks!

Haha. No.

Poor horse. Everyone keeps beating it. It’s dead, and yet we keep on beating away. But what else can one do? Trying to get things done in Internet Explorer 7.0 is about as bad as it ever was. Worse, perhaps? Worse from the fact that after having supposedly rewritten the entire damn thing from the ground up, it still doesn’t read PNG’s properly, and a simple ‘min-width’ property can make your entire site disappear, for no apparent reason.

It’s a shit browser. Plain and simple. In fact, it’s more shit than it is browser.

It is like picking up very fine delicate china (a vase, not the country) with a full hard-on US Navy carrier group. It looks very impressive, but in the long run all you get is an international socio-political crisis, and no one claims responsibility.

Which reminds me, if you’re an IE expert and you want to do compatibility work on K2, by all means let me know!

About Those Ringtones

Apple’s own special way of doing ringtones is this: You can only use songs purchased from the iTunes Store; you must pay an additional 99 cents on top of the price of the song itself; only a small subset of the songs at the iTunes Store are eligible; and, if you decide to create a second ringtone using a different segment of the same song which you’ve already paid for twice, you must pay for it again. But you do get to pick which segment of the song to use. #

RIP FASA

Shadowrun Logo

I ended up marrying the less adventurous Cyperpunk 2020, sure (only to divorce her for Heavy Gear). But don’t think I ever forgot the wild nights we had together, running in the shadows. We had some great times. We were young, vigorous, stupid. You taught me things like… Never trust a dragon. Don’t hit the Matrix — yeah, you got there first — unless you want the rest of your party to retire to the TV room and watch Robocop.

And it always, always comes down to superior firepower, and not that magic mumbojumbo shaman bullshit.

It’s been a long time coming. You’ve not been yourself for years, but I guess today it is definitive. And well, supposedly now is as good a time as any to have my nativity cut down to size and my sorry ass, grown into adulthood. But man… We had some times.

Farewell FASA Corporation.
