If I was in the fortunate position of having an iPhone or any similarly Google Maps capable device, I would swoon over the applicability of Google Maps when traveling in the US.
Sure, we have similar Danish services, and Google Maps itself even covers us fairly well. But compared to New York, and similar major US cities, backwater countries like Denmark are severely underrepresented in the more interesting features. Fair enough, I’m not expecting the streetview feature to hit Copenhagen any time soon, but man, would I like the route finder! Update: So the route finder works exactly the same in Denmark, contrary to my belief. Ehm. Yeah.
If you haven’t tried it yet, you should do so. Try grabbing the blue line anywhere and dragging it somewhere else.
Makes me want to get a drivers license and go on a roadtrip in the US, just so I can use Google Maps.
The route planning part of Google Maps also works for Denmark
What the!… I’m sure I tried it first, so as to not look like a damn fool; but there you go; it works :D
You look like a fool dude……
i never dragged the line before. nice find!
peace.

I found out about the Danish route planner by chance through findvej.dk which is powered by Google Maps.
I recently used Google Maps on my iPhone to find a location on Holmen in Copenhagen. It works great and is really cool :D
If you want to use the route planner and have both the starting point and destination in your address book it’s even easier to use.
Simon, incidentally, findvej.dk’s being ‘fullscreen’ is something Google Maps really ought to do as well, or at least be capable of.
As a happy Norwegian iPhone owner, I hope you are planning to buy an iPhone for yourself when you are in NYC? Though it has a few limitations, its a seriously beautiful kit…
BTW, I was in CPH this weekend, nice weather, friendly people and good food! I always love going there, you are fortunate to live there!

I’ve been thinking about it; but I’m wary of the actual hackability of it. What’s the status on that these days? How many hoops does one have to jump through?
Mine was opened with the ‘original’ 1.02 firmware which was quite easy following this guide in norwegian (which shouldn’t be a problem for you I guess) http://mac1.no/node/5470. It took me around an hour or so, no problems. I am only presuming it will be as easy with the new firmware, though the hacks ain’t ready quite yet, at least the free ones. But as you can see here http://mac1.no/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60370 it probably shouldn’t take too long. I am only using norwegian forums because I want somebody to test the solutions here in Norway before I make the jump to upgrade FW…
I don’t know if that was a good enough answer?

Why don’t you join me for my road trip next year? Got some pretty cool sights lined up, and a wicked route to boot.
