I love your work. Love it! Between Gmail, Google Reader, Google Calendar and Google Code, I find the majority of my digital existence in your capable hands. And I honestly don’t see that changing any time soon.
The update of Gmail that is currently being rolled out is also pretty cool. Chat in Safari? Cool. That’ll come in handy at some point, I’m sure.
But, I’m wondering if any of your team members use Safari on a daily basis? Probably not, as it seems some of the more basic features have been left behind. No longer does Gmail auto-suggest the full names and addresses when you type in the ‘To:’ field.
This is, horrendous!
I would trade you back the chat feature in the blink of an eye if it would bring back the name-suggest. It’s the single most used feature when sending mail, and it’s broken…
The alternative is going to ‘Contacts’ and looking up the person manually. A temporarily viable alternative, if it wasn’t for the fact that the Contacts page is even more broken! And you think it can’t get any worse, right? Then you resize the page.
Seriously Google? You couldn’t wait a week or two and get these things under control?
Thoughtfully, you included the means of using an older version which works as advertised. None too pleased, I guess I’ll have to stick with that for now, even if it doesn’t save my choice in a cookie for future use.
i made a shortcut, a keyworded one, with ‘https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1’. now, when i write ‘gmail’, i always land on the old version.
What about when you click in the labels and the screen doesn’t scroll back to the top? Little glitches that make using GMail a little more unpleasant (don’t know if it’s GMail fault or Safari fault, or both).
Fortunately for me they support Opera pretty well. But I can feel with you. It’s a pain in the arse when you can’t use such important applications the way they were supposed to use. I speak from my own experience as an long time Opera user …
I’m also seeing problems with Google’s code hosting and miscellaneous other applications. For example, in the management interface for the code hosting, various things pop up auto-completion boxes, but they can’t do anything; clicking on one used to fill the text field appropriately, but now has no effect.
I think I’m the only person in the world who doesn’t like GMail. It just seems clunky to me, and I find it loads and runs really sloooooooooooow sometimes in Firefox.
The GMail logo stills has the ‘Beta’ text under it – when the heck is it going to come out of beta? I’ve used it for several years now with only minor issues.
Still, I’ve never liked the interface very much. I guess I compare it to the Google home page which is pretty bare bones.
Let’s be honest @google watchdog, For online email, it doesn’t get any better.
