Homeworld 2 Cutscenes

After years, I’ve finally uploaded these fanastic Homeworld 2 cutscenes.

A reader of mine — whose name has been lost in time — ripped them for me a long time ago. And by pure luck, he couldn’t find the dialog audio files, which are streamed separatly from the score and ambient soundtrack. The result, is an almost abstract series of beautiful aesthetic-centric science fiction vignettes that seem to have no purpose, other than to be cool and awesome.

It’s like science fiction porn that way; just enough story to support what we came to see… Something something desert world, something something starships… I get it.

Now, my Youtube skills are weak, and I can’t figure out how to retain the quality of the original files, so if you’re so inclined feel free to download the originals yourself.

  • I absolutely love the art direction and overall aesthetic value of both homeworld games. I also thought the control scheme was extremely well done. These cutscenes make me want to reinstall the second one and play through it again.

  • Homeworld and sequel had truly awesome cutscenes. They gave an immense sense of how truly lonely space is. The cutscenes actually felt tragic to me.

  • Michael, the link to the .zip file is broken. I get a “file not found.” :(

On another note, I vividly remember the first cutscene in Homeworld with the “Agnus Dei” chorus… Still gives me the goosebumps, fantastic!

  • awesome cutscenes!

for better quality, why don’t you upload them to vimeo?

  • Vimeo are fairly strict with videos. I had a TF2 gameplay video deleted from there today actually.

  • Yeah, Vimeo banned most gameplay videos that weren’t “artistic” enough. Guess they got tired of the billion WoW players wanting to show off random boss kills.

  • reader lost in time

Actually the problem wasn’t so much with finding the dialog. The problem was that it was split into many small pieces. The timing for when to play each piece was controlled by a proprietary script and it would require quite a bit of work to embed the dialog into the video with the right timing. I for one agree that the videos are better without the dialog – if not quite true to the original.

  • Ah, there he is, the man with the plan. And thank you again by the way.

  • Thanks so much for uploading these (with music even!). Now if only Homeworld 2 came to steam :(

  • The Homeworld series is one of the best games I played. Great UI (for 3D), Super great music, great visuals. Wish it had more sequels.

  • Also, is it possible for you to up the Homeworld 1 cutscenes?

  • I would love to, but I don’t have them. Maybe ‘reader lost in time’ has them, in which case if he gives them to me, I’ll upload them asap.

  • Wohoo, great, I almost forgot Homeworld.
Maybe i can find the old homeworld 1 and cataclysm discs this weekend…

  • Michael, thanks SO much for putting this up. It’s something I’ve always wanted to keep and watch whenever I wish.
I actually leave the game installed for this purpose only – to watch the cutscenes.

However, my jumping up and down with joy has ceased because I think there is a timeout on your server and I can’t seem to get past 2% of the file without the download cutting itself off.

Could you look into that please? I really can’t wait to sit back and listen to Agnus Dei against a monochrome space opera.

  • Yeah Homeworld 2! What a great game, i really loved it. And now I think I’ll install and play it again xD. Thank’s for uploading this video.

  • Awesome videos, thanks for uploading them! Loved Homeworld.
