The struggle goes on. As far as I can tell it is impossible to get the Mac to boot from the OS X disc I have. Whether that’s because it’s not a bootable disc (it was toasted straight from the .img, so that shouldn’t be it), or if it’s something else that I’m missing, I don’t know.
I’m getting my hands on another image of OS X, but these things take tiiime.

Do you really have to boot from the disc to install it?
It seems that way. I’m not very knowledgable about Macs of course, but there’s a bunch of files on the disc, and they all lead to a dialog with a “restart” button…
Is there any other way of doing it that you know of? Something more manual?
I dunno, you should ask some people on a Mac forum or on IRC (ie. #macintosh on Dalnet).
I think I know why. It’s because the .img has to burned in a specific way. It’s a long story, but I’m downloading the image now…
