Colin McGinn on Philosophy

There is a really article by Colin McGinn on philosophy that I would emplore you to take a look at. Here’s a small sampling that I thought was particularly fitting for posting here:

“Around this time I started to write a diary, chiefly as a way to practice my writing skills. Since there is no need to monitor the quality or interest of what is being written, the diary is an ideal form for developing the technique of writing, and for taking the anxiety out of it. No one will correct your grammar and spelling, or make fun of your naive thoughts and banal phrases, so you are free to get on to friendly terms with the language you speak. I would often try out new words I had learned – the dictionary had become my friend, rather than a standard I was failing to live up to – secure in the knowledge that solecism would not lead to embarrassment. A few hundred words a day, complemented by steady reading, will soon produce a passable prose style. The habit of daily reflection also fosters a critical sense, and an articulacy about what is going on; moral acuity can grow from this, as well as self-knowledge. Yes, a diary can seem like self-indulgent wallowing in the trivial details of day to day life, but it is the form, not the content, that counts. I have never read any of my old diaries, and I haven’t written one for over 20 years, but I do think that composing them helped teach me how to write and even how to think. Everyone should have one, starting young.”

I found it by way of Arts and Letters Daily.

Tom makes his move

Tom will be leaving England, heading for Copenhagen, tomorrow. He’ll scout out IO Interactive for about a little under 2 months preparing for my arrival in January (Remember to every once in a while bring up my name and speak of me in an awed and hushed manner!).

Have a good trip!

Links ad libitum

Here we go again, link-flood:

Lastly I remember back when the OS/2 vs. Windows was all about whether or not you could multitask properly one of the arguments I heard was: “Well what do you need multi-tasking for anyway? It’s not like you’re writing two letters at the samt time!”… All I have to say to whoever that was, and I truthfully can’t remember who it was and I don’t care, is something that rimes with boron.

Ah yes, about that Kill Bill review. There was a change of plan as my little brother suddenly crashed us for a couple of days. It’s coming though, and believe me; it’s a hard one!

Apartment? Check.

The generosity of some people just blows me away!

Rikke has a friend in Copenhagen, Stine. She just called to say that she would be moving in with her boyfriend so that we could lease her apartment from her because she didn’t want us to run around like beheaded chickens looking for a place to live. Her apartment is cheap as hell and located favorably (on Amager)!

Can you beat that?!

This is just the coolest thing ever! This allows us to not only save up some money (well, actually more like diminsh some debt) and relax a bit about the whole moving to Copenhagen thing. Especially considering the ultimate hassle of looking for apartments in a city 5 hours and 600dkr away.

So yeah, this is really nice.

We’ll be moving over there, most likely, in the beginning of December.

Googleized… Pazoow!

Thanks to your hard work in linking to me, I am now the #1 Binary Bonsai and Michael Heilemann on Google. It feels good to be me. Kick ass!

The Works of Chris Cunningham

Mein leben! There’s a DVD with the works of Chris Cunningham coming out! I’m so getting this!

No Alien for us

Arrhhh bollocks. Alien Director’s Cut is, it would seem, a US release only. I hope you enjoy it!
