Well it’s the end of the first full month of Binary Bonsai being hosted on Matt’s server, the same server that hosts among others WordPress, Matt, Ethan, Dunstan, Browse Happy and Dave. And other than the slashdotting incident (with Browse Happy) a few weeks back, it’s been great.
Now, I mention this primarily because the traffic this month has been beyond anything I’ve seen so far. And while ~20GB for a month might not compare to certain other site (22 TeraBytes anyone?), it’s pretty high in my book (which so far had a spike last month of 9GB, up from 4GB the month before that). With an average of ~3.100 visits a day, with it spiking yesterday for the second time this month at about ~3.700 (Thanks Matt Haughey).
The Bonsai is the most busy on Monday’s, with a combined ~12.000 pages served and the least busy on Thursday’s (!?) with a combined ~8.800 pages served. Activity begins to rise around 13.00 , spike at 19.00 and die out again at 21.00, with a low at 05.00.
Other than my feeds, Kubrick is the most served page on the site, with the Kubrick 1.2.5 entry topping as the most visited page and Hurricane Ivan coming in one a second place. Speaking of Kubrick, version 1.2.5 has been downloaded 2500 times since it’s release, which is about 100 downloads a day, or once every fifteen minutes. And that’s not including the ported versions.
Out of the people visiting this site, 71.4% are using Windows in some form and 17.7% are on Macs. Some unknown shows up on third place with 5.8% and linux is on fourth with 4.7%.
In terms of browsers, things are really improving. 41% of you are on Mozilla in some incarnation, and only 30.3% of you are still stuck on Internet Explorer. Safari comes in on third place with 11.5%, again an unknown on 7.6% and Opera on 4.4%. Interesting to knote, is that NetNewsWire, an OS X feed reader, sucks up 2.1%, Netscape 1.1% and 0.1% on Firebird…
Oh, and the top 5 search phrases that brought people here?
- ‘my spoon is too big’
- ‘my anus is bleeding’
- ‘hurricane ivan pictures’
- ‘hurricane ivan’
- ‘kubrick wordpress’
And that’s about all there is to say about that.

What did you use to get these stats, Michael?
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY! MY ANUS IS BLEEDING!
Heh. I love Rejected.
Now that both you and Jogin have made entries about yout stats, I’ll jump on the bandwagon. Though I’ve had an entry like that in mind for a long time.
Scott, I use AWStats
Johan, I don’t normally endorse talking about stats. I feel like I’m trying to show off or something. But nonetheless these posts serve in two ways. One, I can go back and find older ‘state of’ entries and compare. And two, it follows up on ‘why did I choose to move to another server’ and whether that has paid off or not.
And of course, there are also a few blogs that I follow loyally. And after a while, a certain relationship of some sort is established, and I often find myself very interested in the day to day business of those blogs.
And I suppose some of my readers feel the same way.
Hey, Michael —- I’m actually not hosted on Matt’s servers. sidesh0w’s currently broadcasting from Wolfpaw, but I’m planning to switch over to TextDrive soon. Free hosting for life makes a compelling argument. :P
Oh, and yes: Rejected rocks. I am feeling fat, and sassy.
Tsk, don’t know where I got that idea then. Sorry about that :)
Probably from that Dunstan kid. He can’t be trusted.
I can only assume that the affiction described in the number 2 search phrase is frequently being caused by the circumstance described in the number 1 search phrase.
Which, really, only begs further questions of your Google-directed readership.
Have you tried Webalizer? If yes, then how does AWStats compare to it? If no, then I would recommend it highly. See my host for example stats.
Some nice stats. Funny to note that my browser stats are pretty equal, though I transfer a mere 2 GB.
Let him be, let him be. C’mon, he actually moved to America from England! What’s wrong with him? ;)
Narada, AWStats are a better solution IMO. Include far more information.
I have them both available.
You can’t beat http://das.reinvigorate.net/ when it comes to stats :)
Funny, I was actually looking at that earlier today!
“My anus is bleeding”?!
Livesearch is your friend my friend.
