Google Earth

My Crib

I would love to have had Google Maps back when I had geography in school. I would have paid attention if we had had Google Earth.

I don’t think I’m the first, nor the last, to make the parable between Stephenson’s Snow Crash, in which the Protagonist (whose name is Protagonist, Hiro Protagonist), has a program called Earth, which does what Google Earth does, only more.

You go Google!

PS: Now give me an OS X version, thanks. Oh, and why the hell haven’t you created a way for me to throw out a gearth:// link to things? Make that happen stat!

Well, we can link to google maps all over the world, including my neck of the woods.

I think that’s pretty cool, now I’m just waiting for the map part which isn’t fully there.

Yeah, but I want to link directly to my angle, height, longtitude and lattitude in Google Earth :( (without having to send a mail). We chat a lot on our in-house IRC channel, and I want to be able to share discoveries fast and easy.

This is the coolest thing since ketchup (Heinz).

Damn you for posting it. Everybody at work is stuck finding their homes, then their playgrounds and vacation spots. No-one’s getting any work done.

If you actually place a “placemark”, (the little tack icon), you can right click that tack and get directions to the place.

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem as though it’s easy to find back to that place.

In case you’re in luck, here’s where I live:

    “Home” lat=55.6595785468, lon=12.6087181114

Well, you can mail placemarks to each other. But that’s just not good enough…

Things like this should come with clear flashing warnings “open this app and kiss your day goodbye”

I was playing with it for about 5 hours straight yesterday, then I found the 3d buildings in certain places….

Same here, I didn’t get a thing done today… But I found K2 and a bunch of other cool things…

Hey, we have a problem called K2 on our climbing wall at Nørrebrohallen, but maybe that wasn’t what you were talking about :P

  8. 8 Michael

Actually it was! Can you believe that :D

  9. 9 Jonas Rabbe

    Btw. Nørrebrohallen is here

Definitely looking forward to the Mac version.

The site says it’s in Beta. More beta! Have any Google projects been officially released yet? “beta” seems to be the last stage for them in anything. I think it’s just easier to call everything “beta” than to offer full support for the products.

    There are three stages:

    1. Idea
    2. Beta
    1. No Profit!

    Michael,

AdSense and AdWords seem to be taking in a good bit of revenue, not sure what the actual profit margin is compared to the entire corporation but I’m willing to bet those particular projects are more than paying for the business and technology infrastructure required to run them.

  14. 14 Michael

There are many ways for Google to make profit, I was just kidding around :)

Someone told me that Google will soon be the biggest company in the world, operating in multiple areas of business and entertainment.

    Can someone say Skynet? ;-)

Yes! That’s where I live. Though it’s more like an apartment complex than it is a house :)
