Pondering a recent entry, I came to the conclusion that some decisions simply dumbfound me. I mean… I literally don’t know what to say. But at least I’m glad I’ve got Kottke, Gruber, Boing Boing, Jeremy Keith and Bruce Sterling on my side.

You've reach the blog of Michael Heilemann. This small 'about' blurp really should have more text and a few links in it, but I can't be bothered, as I seem to break it constantly anyway. So, instead I suggest you take your pointer, move it around and see what you can click. Maybe you'll find something interesting.
For now, you can have a look at Flickr, Google Reader Shares, Last.fm, Allconsuming, del.icio.us, MobyGames, tumblr, LinkedIn or Digg
You’re not the only one… you can’t be the only one. I think a Greasemonkey script might be a better way to go than Snap’s cookie method, though.
Yes, a Greasemonkey solution would be perfect. I’m not at all happy about the fact that everyone who doesn’t want the silly little popups has to accept a cookie from the shysters who are putting them there.
.. and cookies have a nasty habit of changing (and are in fact an absolute doodle to change). So whilst the site preview (again, if I want to view a site, I’ll visit it) may be deactivated now – one slight change and hey-presto, everyone gets the preview back.
And really, it’s just a billboard for snap.com. People are suckered into turning on YAST (yet another shiney toy) thinking they’re getting some snazzy little preview thing.. totally unaware that, really, it’s just a massive bumper sticker (and revenue earner) for snap.
You’d have to have (repeatedly) fallen on your head to believe snap.com are doing this entirely out of the kindness of their heart. :)
You can add Nick Wilson to the list as well.
WordPress.com is the worst though… they made it “opt-out,” so they’re all over the place unless the blog owner searches through options to turn it off.
I have found the best solution is to just block the script URL in AdBlock. Prevents it from being loaded in the first place, which saves loading time, and also increases privacy.

http://spa.snap.com/snap_preview_anywhere.jsto your blacklist.Well, my site hardly has pictures. I mostly use text and links to show what is going on in the world of social interaction. So having the pop-ups works for me and probably a few of my readers (if I have any). What I will do in my ABOUT section, I will show how to disable it with the links you have given here.
Thanks… I do admin that I find them annouying on certain sites (even the ones that I run). The first place I saw it was on TechCrunch and even they seem to have modified it somewhat (for example it doesn’t pop-UNDER video clips like it does in my site)
Its proabably easy to modify using CSS (I just haven;‘t figured it out yet)
