Duke Nukem Forever and Ever and…

10 years. That’s how long Duke Nukem Forever has been in the works. I have no more humor to throw at Duke Nukem. 10 years!… That’s not Sparta, that’s madness!

I look forward to reading the book about this, the biggest fuck up since Daikatana, it should be quite entertaining.

What were you doing 10 years ago? I was in high school… Feels like… forever :)

PS: You can read reviews at Amazon.

“Time flies when you’re having fun playing games that aren’t Duke Nukem Forever.”

You’re totally correct, but I’m still going to buy the game when it comes out :P

And yet you know NOTHING about it… :)

I hope they never finish it.

Cause if they do, it won’t be Duke Nukem Forever anymore. It will just be Duke Nukem 10 Years in The Making. Now, what kind of a title is that??

Oh no! Duke again? I think you know about S.T.A.L.K.E.R? Five years they do it and what? It is ordinary First Person Shooter…

Any game that wins a lifetime achievement vaporware award from Wired deserves a purchase. If it ever gets to that point.

Now that i think about it, this is absolutely hilarious (not for the producer).
It was like the 1st time I played Duke nukem 3D, i was about 11 or 12 years old or something. And now am 20, and the news about Duke Nukem Forever hit the news from time to time. It really is forever, and it should stay like that forever.

Daikatana!? Was it a game or sth? I think i played it at some point when I was really young lol.

That’s is true, but it’s more like a cool thing to have, if it comes out :)

Okay, I’ll take the bait :P

    1) Yes, I believe that 3DRealms will finish DNF.
    2) Yes, I think it will be awesome.

    Here’s why:

    1) They are still hiring people for that game specifically. After 10 years, if they’re still hiring new people, it just wouldn’t make any sense to give up at this point.

    2) I think the comparison to Daikatana is a poor one – although yes, that game also took way too long. Everything that has been released for DNF has impressed me (except, of course, the fact that the GAME hasn’t been released). Duke3D was the first FPS to blow my mind (which it truly did) and it’s the same guys behind this title. id‘s stuff was technically great, and Romero had design influence, but that certainly doesn’t put him in line with the 3DRealms guys.

Anyhow, I’m keeping the faith. If the game sucks, I’ll be the first one to say “Worst. Failure. Ever.” But, if the game rocks and 3DRealms plays their cards right (in terms of media coverage and advertising the release), people will hardly be able to control themselves.

Here’s the way I look at it: DNF has spent 10 years in development. Let’s say the average AAA title spends about 2.5 years in production, give or take. That’s 4 major AAA titles that DNF has to deliver on to make up for the time and money spent.

And it won’t. It almost doesn’t matter how good it ends up being, it can’t live up to the expextations of 4 AAA titles. And so the question is, would you rather have one or four really good games?

  12. 12 Mike

Well, no, I don’t think that is the question. If, for no other reason, than it allows for an obvious answer: four.

However, that seems like a defeatist approach to the situation – as if 3DRealms owes you four awesome games, cause they made you wait so long. I don’t see it like that. I’d rather have one DNF than zero, and all I’m saying is that I think it’ll come out and rock. Whether it took 1 year or 10 years doesn’t really affect my enjoyment of the game.

I’m certainly not saying you’ll enjoy it. As you stated, it can’t possibly live up to your expectations. So that’s fair enough.

  13. 13 Michael

Well, my expectations are that they’ll never ship. So if they box a turd and call it DNF, they’ll have met my expectations :D

But then, I never bought in to the idea of nearly carbon-copying Ash into a game :)
