Courtesy of the largely intolerable Ain’t It Cool News, comes footage from the upcoming Blade Runner release. I can’t wait; I’m going to hole myself up in the apartment and just watch the whole stinkin’ mess from one end to the other. It’ll be epic. I don’t really want the big suitcase, because where to put it? But man, do I ever want that suitcase…
Update: Cinematical scored a rather lengthy interview with Ridley Scott.

I just realized how long it’s been since I’ve seen it. It looks absolutely marvellous. And I’ve just realized how much time I spend hunting that look, and it’s all just a vague copy…..phew.
Harrison: “It was a bitch”! Awesome…..Can’t wait.
It’s delicious. Now the dilemma is: buy a PS3 just to start collecting blurays? Or buy the DVD thing, knowing it’ll eventually feel oldschool.
What do you plan to do? Bluray or DVD?
Well, Rikke is vehemently against us getting a HD TV for a few years still, so I have to go DVD.
And it’s only $55 from Amazon.com which is rather cheap I must say considering the stuff that’s included.

But if you were to get a PS3 for any other reason (I know you dislike that thing), you would be able to play blurays in a normal rez…
I’m just asking because while I’m a DVD freak myself, I’ve lately found myself feeling the upgrade urge…
So I can have another console I don’t play on? :)

The PS3 is a games console? I thought it was the cheapest Linux media center with a Bluray player on the market…
A little friendly sarcasm there. Yeah, I think it’s ugly, bulky and slightly expensive, even so I’m pretty sure it’ll eventually replace my old Xbox 1 media center, which I’ve never ever played a single game on. You have heard about the PS3 “second OS” right?

Nice extended footage!
In “Zhora” several lines are repeated over and over to create atmosphere in the first third of it. Most notable for me was a Japanese male voice, who I believe is saying “Dareka henna mono otoshichatta ze.” (“Somebody dropped something strange.”) It’s repeated six times (in various lengths) and spoken in a non-native Japanese speaker (like the old man from the noodle shop from whom Deckard buys food; a rather odd scene as Japanese food vendors NEVER fight with you about how much you buy).
I heard other voices repeated too. Anyone know what languages they were?
Overall, very nice.

Wait a year, and you can buy your PS3 and your Blurays at half the price. The money you’ll save will buy you your DVD copy at release, and then go some way towards an HDTV as well. “Early adoption” is just slang for getting ripped off.

The early adoption penalty is pretty low now. A good machine can be had for about $400. If the price is cut in half, you save $200 but miss a year of stunning high-def. The real money is in the discs, anyway.
Of course, you really need an hdmi-enabled TV, so if you don’t have one the issue is the TV, really.
I have both formats and both machines are buggy (the Xbox 360 add-on HD DVD is cheap shaky plastic) But when the disc gets rolling, you’ve reached visual nirvana.
Will be interesting to see if the Blade Runner special effects hold up to HD resolution without looking cheesy.

Knowing myself (I’m really lazy), I probably will wait a year. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem, but this is a set I want to own. I won’t buy both the DVD and Bluray, so it looks like I’ll have to postpone buying an HD TV + PS3 + Blade Runner and maybe rent this bastard til then. Oh well, the wait will probably mean I can actually afford the upgrade.
Well this is about Blade Runner NOT about Bluray or DVD. For %^$&* sakes its Blade Runner man, if some unreleased footage became available on Beta I’ll buy the footage.
The movie has so much more to it than the first release with the crap ending. The final cut was yanked from Ridley’s hands and there is tons of unrealsed footage. The movie could have been even better in a more darker more futuristic story line. Anyways anything Blade Runner you buy. End of story.
