The Poseidon Incident

I decided today, based on various discussions on- and offline that the ability to identify a good movie is pretty much the same as being able to look at a painting and be able to identify it as a good painting for one reason or another.

It goes much deeper than the ‘what I think’ that most the ‘average’ joe usually bursts out with. The understanding of acting, cinematography, lighting, framing, editing, effects, art direction and so on, are all needed to be able to understand and rate (so to speak) a movie. It’s a skill that can be honed like any other appraising skill.

So why am I saying this? Because I think Lord of the Rings the Special Extended DVD Edition is one of the best movies ever made, and the more I see of it, the more I entrench that opinion. A lot of people would obviously agree with me on this, but I’ve met a few of the people that just don’t get it. And I know I’ll get flamed for saying this because it’s so self-indulgent, but I truly believe that they’re wrong.

Wrong as in they just don’t understand what they’re talking about. They don’t have a clue. I haven’t talked a lot about movies on this site, which is actually quite unlike me, as movies is one of those things that permeate my life and somehow finds itself most of the things I do. So yeah, you can probably expect more stuff about movies on here in the future.

Drawing ThumbnailJust a minor update here, I’ve started polishing up on my anatomy knowledge and skill. Got a great new book called The Human Figure by David K. Rubins. If you interested in learning how to draw anatomy, you should really consider getting this book, it’s much better than any other book I’ve seen so far.

Well it’s back to normal again, Rikke’s back in Denmark, and it’s time to get back to work.

I’ve got one of my uni projects (Moving Images) down pat, I just need to get it done. I’m more worried about my animation project. I mean… Flash… Why Flash? I hate flash. Ah well, I guess we’ll see what happens. I have to present the idea on Tuesday, we’ll see if it gets ‘approved’ or not.

Terribly sorry that the last many updates haven’t had any accompanying eye candy, but I’ve just been busy with a lot of things. I promise to get new stuff up here ASAP :)

Wow, it’s been a long while since I’ve gotten so little work done in so long!

Well anyway, I won’t be updating until sometime late next week since my girlfriend is coming over from Denmark this week :).
