Fiorina 161 is a lice - infected planet in a distant solar system. A maximum security work correctional facility, this monastic community is host to some of the most violent criminals of the universe. Into this male dominated world crashes Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley, bringing with her an unwelcome visitor. Once again Ripley is pitted against her deadliest enemy, only this time without the aid of advanced technology or modern weapons.

Introduction

[Alien3 Video Cover Back] ALIEN3 wasn't received very well by the general population, I don't blame them for that, the first time I saw it, I didn't really care for it much either. But I've gotten to love it just as much as the other films in the series. The thing is, that Fincher filmed it more as a piece of art than the other directors had done, which created a different mood altogether. Whether you like that mood is up to yourself.

The only real problem with ALIEN3, is that it has major holes in the plotline, such simple things as:"How the devil did that egg get onboard the Sulaco?" and stuff like that. It's a shame, it could have been a larger success if filmed for a larger audience.

Maybe the problem, is that people expected something near ALIENS, and got something near ALIEN. Maybe they had gotten accustomed to the kind of films most stars throw out into the streets, and that's action films. A shame, because ALIEN3 really has it's bright moments, especially the birth of the "bambi" Alien and the death of Ripley (speaking in the way they're filmed, not what they portray). Also the inventive way of showing the Alien POV (Point-Of-View) to the viewers.

A lot of people also think, that Fincher displayed the characters of the film like nothing more than shadows in the dark. He killed them off fairly quick, and without hesitation. Just as you think Clemens might just survive, he's killed. But I think that Fincher actually had quite a nice range of characters, he was deviating quite a bit from the previous films, and that's good (in my opinion)

Review:
More-of-the-same sequel has Weaver and other survivors of ALIENS (1986) being sent to isolated prison planet where (you guessed it) the alien regenerates itself and goes beserk. Good performances, some scares, but a definite feeling of deja vu hangs over the proceedings. Panavision.
