Most Dice Aren’t That Random

Dice aren’t just dice. And you don’t need to consciously cheat to have dice that are quite a bit less than random; which Colonel Zocchi ain’t afraid to tell you:

For a more scientific study of the imprecision of dice, check out this paper, not to mention the Dice-o-Matic. Now if you’ll excuse me, I just checked my own dice, and they’re… questionable, so I’m off to find a place to buy casino-grade dice in Copenhagen; if not, Game Science it is.

Continuing the D&D and ebook themes, Wizards of the Coast — who own and publish D&D — recently put a stop to digital sales of their games. Dave Arnesen, Fare Thee Well

Red Dragon by Larry Elmore

Dave Arnesen, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, alongside Gary Gygax, has died.

As I also wrote when Gygax died last year, what I’ve gotten from Dungeons & Dragons is what I surround myself with every single day. My job, my hobbies and the D&D campaign I play in every other week.

I salute you gentlemen, with the finest mead of the kingdom.

So I did one for myself, and tonight I made some revisions to it, the resultant PDF of which can be downloaded here:

Gary Gygax, Fare Thee Well

Dungeons and Dragons Basic

My job as a game designer, my nearly life-long hobby of roleplaying, much of my interest in writing and reading; these are rings in the water, emanating from the pebble that was Gary Gygax, starting for me, with the red book above.

I raise my +1 longsword in salute.
